Trudy Gold
bar Kokhba / ben Zakkai: Who are the Heroes of the Jews?

Tuesday 9.04.2024

Summary

Trudy Gold explores the lives of two Jewish heroes: Yohanan ben Zakkai and Simon bar Kochba. During the First Jewish-Roman War, Yohanan ben Zakkai was smuggled out of Jerusalem. Believing defeat inevitable, he gained permission to establish a study centre to save Jews and Judaism. Later, in the third Jewish War, Simon bar Kochba managed to resist the might of Rome for three years. In this lecture Trudy Gold asks, do these extraordinary people illuminate the dilemma of the Jew to this day?
