Ambassador Avi Gil
Ambassador Avi Gil served as director general of the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001–2002), the prime minister’s chief of staff (1995–1996), and director-general of the Ministry of Regional Cooperation (1999–2001). Avi has been closely involved in Israel’s policymaking and peace efforts, including the negotiations that led to the Oslo Accords. He is the author of Shimon Peres, An Insider’s Account of the Man and the Struggle for a New Middle East (2020). Additionally, Avi served as director of content for the five Israeli Presidential Conferences “Facing Tomorrow” (2009–2014), as well as the content director of the Global Forum of the National Library of Israel since its inception in 2014. Since 2003 Gil has been a senior fellow at the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI).
