1910: London Goes Modern
Summary
The reign of Edward VII seemed like an afterglow of the Victorian period. However, around 1910 a series of controversial cultural events dragged the British public into the twentieth century. These controversial events include the unveiling of Jacob Epstein’s sculptures on the British Medical Association Building, Roger Fry’s Post-Impressionist shows and the premiere of Richard Strauss’ “Elektra” at the Royal Opera House.
