William Tyler
The British Mandate in Palestine

Monday 1.07.2024

Summary

Following World War I, the Mandate over Palestine given by the League of Nations proved to be a poisoned chalice for Britain, which struggled to find a solution to the Arab-Jewish conflict. This led to violence between the two communities along with direct attacks on its own rule. The Mandate ended when Israel unilaterally declared independence in 1948.
